Giddis Youth Technology Empowerment Center for Africa (GYTEC-Africa), through its flagship initiative, the Vocational Training Institute of Giddis for Advanced Technology and Entrepreneurship (VTI-GATE), has trained over 20 youths in essential smartphone design skills.

The free “Smart Phone Design Free Training” took place on November 8 at their Campus B in Chapel Obili. The training was specifically designed to address the growing demand for affordable and accessible digital skills.

Participants gained crucial, hands-on knowledge in graphic design, mastering the creation of professional digital assets—including flyers, posters, and business cards—entirely using their mobile phones.

The VTI-GATE administration noted that the current digital economy heavily relies on visual communication. This training provided participants with immediate access to the tools and practical exercises needed to elevate their design skills, enabling them to pursue freelancing opportunities or enhance their small businesses.

The focus on smartphone use makes the skill highly practical and replicable, bypassing the need for expensive computer equipment.

“Our goal is to demystify technology and make it a powerful tool for economic empowerment,” stated a VTI-GATE representative. “By teaching them to design professionally on their phones, we are putting a marketable skill directly into their hands, regardless of their location or economic background.”

Participants expressed immense satisfaction with the quality and practical nature of the training. They particularly valued the immediate applicability of the skills learned. In their feedback, attendees strongly urged the GYTEC-Africa administration to multiply these free training sessions.

They stressed that expanding such initiatives is vital for equipping more youths with the practical, modern skills necessary to improve their livelihoods and thrive in the modern job market.
