The 12th graduating class of the Vocational Training Institute of Giddis for Advanced Technology and Entrepreneurship (VTI-GATE) has been challenged to become agents of social change, tasked with mentoring others and developing innovative solutions to local problems.

This call to action was made by the school’s Director, Bruno Lukong Berinyuy, during the graduation ceremony held on Saturday, August 30, in Yaounde. The ceremony, chaired by Berinyuy, was attended by key officials and partners.
“As you enter the workforce, remember that your skills are tools for building a stronger Cameroon,” Berinyuy said. “Contribute to society by mentoring others, innovating solutions to local problems, and fostering inclusivity in your fields.”

He urged the graduates to see their vocations not as mere jobs but as callings that demand dedication and ethical conduct. He stressed that professionalism extends beyond simply showing up on time; “it’s about approaching every task with excellence, integrity, and a sense of purpose.”
Berinyuy highlighted the unique role of vocational training in bridging the gap between theory and practice, stating, “Vocational training, as you have experienced, bridges the gap between theory and practice, turning knowledge into actionable impact.” He added that their attitude toward work is what transforms a job into a true calling.

Given Cameroon’s evolving digital landscape, he stressed that the graduates’ expertise in computer literacy programs positions them as vital agents of change. “You have not only acquired technical expertise but also developed the soft skills essential for success: resilience in the face of setbacks, teamwork in diverse environments, and an ethical approach to work that prioritizes sustainability and community welfare,” he noted.

“Embrace professionalism, value your vocational foundation, and foster an attitude that serves society with excellence,” he pointed out. “The world needs your talents; go forth and build a brighter tomorrow.”
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Mercy Meya Akenji affirmed the students’ readiness to face the job market and solve societal problems.
“As we stand on the threshold of this new chapter, remember that the future is not something you wait for, but something you create,” she stated. “You’re not just graduates; you are innovators, problem-solvers, and game-changers. You’re ready to take on the world and make your mark.”

Akenji also advised her peers that resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning will be their greatest allies.
Promise Yokwei, keynote speaker, encouraged the graduates to maintain a positive mindset and continuously develop their skills. He urged them to continue learning, conduct extensive research, and, most importantly, set clear core values.

The graduates collectively expressed their eagerness to enter the job market and their commitment to using their skills to address community challenges. Registrations for the next academic year at VTI-GATE are currently in progress.
